Girl Meets Tech Teen Conference
The 3rd edition of Startzone’s Girl Meets Tech meetup has been scheduled to hold on the 5th of December, 2017, at The Zone Centre, Plot 9, Gbagada-Oshodi Express, Lagos. Over 500 female secondary school girls across Lagos are expected to attend the tech event.
Startzone, Nigeria’s biggest tech innovation hub, has been using the Girl Meets Tech event to inspire and empower young female, especially secondary school girls, to be future tech solution providers.
The first edition of the Girl Meets Tech event was targeted at female entrepreneurs and professionals. At the first edition that had over 60 ladies from all works of life, they were educated on the various ways they can use technology to grow their businesses and work better in their professions.
The second edition, which was organized to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, had in attendance girls between the ages of 13 to 17 from Caro Favoured School, Topfield College, and Anikeola Schools.
At the event, the students were encouraged to pursue a career in tech-related field by one of the facilitators, Nkiruka Ilewi, a female techpreneur and CEO of Deep Ocean Consult, a web hosting company based in Lagos. Nkiruka told the girls about her journey in the tech world, how she started her tech company ten years despite and how technology has helped her achieve as a woman.
Titi Oni, Programme Manager of Starzone said the third edition promises to be bigger as it has been designed to empower and educate the over 500 secondary school girls expected.
She said, “The third edition of Girl Meets Tech is definitely going to be great. We are partnering with top organisations in the country to ensure that it becomes a success.
“Our facilitators are female tech experts who will be great sources of inspiration to the young girls. Aside that, we have also prepared different exciting packages for the girls. It is not going to be about the talks alone, it is going to be fun for the girls.”
